New Kittens Weeeee :D

Well last time I updated (naughty me) we were dealing with Terra and her eye issues and Leo and his hair ball issues.
Really don't like this hood ~ Terra

Terra ended up returning to the vet the following Friday since the ointment didn't improve the eye and she kept itching it until it was swollen every time she was given hood-free time. The vet prescribed pretty much the same stuff but with an extra ingredient to give it more oomph. The vet said if that didn't work then we'd have to look at surgery.

She felt there was no scratch on the eyeball or anywhere that she could see but looking at the eye the corner of her bottom lid rolled inwards and could have been the cause of irritation. Whether that lid was only rolling in because of swelling is unknown.

Terra has had many trips to the vet with eye issues, it made me wonder whether every injury has been her right eye. Curious to find out next vet visit.

Thankfully next vet visit wont be until her booster injections. *fingers crossed* Mid week of trying the new ointment Terra's eye began to look less inflamed and we only kept the medication going for the week because we didn't want to stop it too early. By the weekend she was having most nights - while she was being supervised - wandering around without her hood and washing herself like mad.

Beyond my-eye-is-dirty-I-want-to-clean-it rubbing of the eye there was no it-itches-like-mad-and-still-hurts rubbing. Her eye didn't swell again and that weekend she went full days without the hood absolutely fine.
Go 'way I'm done with you ~ Terra

Now Leo. He had one revisit of vomiting but putting some cat lax on his paw as needed seems to work. Overuse apparently causes mineral deficiencies so I choose to only use it sparingly. He is on hairball control dry food also so hopefully that helps too.

Unfortunately his food maze died. I swapped his scratching post food dispenser for the food maze when I changed his dry food since it was a different shape and only caused blockages with the scratching post one.
Sadly although it worked the food maze is like food heaven for ants and both in my brothers room and then in mine they made a line to go sight seeing on the various levels effectively contaminating the food and being a general unwelcome pest in his food area.

Thus Leo is now on rations. He gets limited food a few times a day. Not how I would prefer to feed him but with Terra on fat camp (trying to limit any intake she has) and Leo's food being targeted by ants I feel this is what works for now.

I did have a brief worry that he was constipated. Thankfully that too cleared (with a few extra helpings of cat lax).
Stop fussing, I'm fine ~ Leo

So all is good in the land of permanent residents. If only I could get Leo to stop being a royal brat when he doesn't get his way.
Putting excess energy to good use with da bird toy

*Brat behavior consists of ripping around the room in an annoyed manner and then targeting Terra until she's hissing and telling him to back off. (Yes she sometimes does the whole Poke, Poke, Poke until his patience snaps but since she cant remember to keep her face away from his claws we often have to rescue her...).
I'm not a brat ~ Leo

shut in my room to cool it)

New News

A few days ago I saw a kitten picture and was like 'Aww I miss having kittens'

I think that day I put my foot down and entirely emptied the foster room and cleaned it within a few inches of its life. It had been given a rough clean and time to air but this was taking out all the cages and pretty much saying kitten season was over.

I've enjoyed the break immensely, especially since my last lot went under less than cheerful circumstances.

I had a meet up with Buster right before the lock-down was released. He'd grown so much and had lost some of his fuzz.

How ya goin' dude? ~ Buster

I picked him up and his motor cranked up to full purr and it was like old times. Unfortunately old times included his annoying habit of being a flea magnet and quite a few were weaving their way through his fur.

A week later he was in the local newspaper and today he was an absentee in the sales room. Good luck my little charmer, hope you live a long and happy life with your new family.

So far all cat flu has been cleared and its happy times.

A few days ago I had a brief encounter with a worker at the shelter and asked if they had kittens. She said a mother cat had given birth to a few kittens a few days ago. Nothing further was discussed.

The following day a brief encounter with the same worker she mentioned if I was interested in fostering the mother and bubs then they'd be up for care.

*dances around room*

After bouncing around town like a ping pong ball, finishing work and other random errands I finally made it out to the shelter. The kittens are approximately One Week Old.

I had my anxiety up, the last batch I'd taken on this young had been the Angels. I finally met mother and her 4 bubs. Oh be still my heart.
Check out Fran's amber eyes.

Mother is a young ginger and white with amazing amber eyes. Her name (given by shelter - yay no naming) is Fran short for Francis. Not what I would have named her but she'll probably go by 'mother' the whole time she's here anyway.

Biggest kitten in the bunch is little Hank a chubby little ginger and white male. It appears their eyes are beginning to open.

Next is Simba a pure white male kitten.

Then Kimba a pure white female kitten. (Yes Meg ...pure white kittens)
Kimba ~ I don't like this!

Lastly, smallest of the bunch is Josie and she appears to be a potential dilute calico.

They had a health check since today was vet day before I took them on and the vet gave them all a healthy A-OK.

Mother is a gentle soul and has been very patient with me I try not to touch the kittens too much and only need to pop in to check none have dropped out, weigh them once a day and keep food up to Fran for herself and her growing babies. They are chubby little ones all over 200 grams already.

Fran is a natural mother even though I suspect this is her first litter just from how young she appears herself. Every time I've picked up a kitten then returned it to her she gives it a little welcome back.

My Kittens! ~ Fran

Can't wait for these little dudes to begin looking more like tiny kittens and less like little rats. Yay.
