Sugar's kittens are now having brief runs on the floor. Man are they so uncoordinated.

With the kittens getting more independent its also concerning to see where Sugar's future may lead her. Sadly she hasn't improved with her temperament towards people. If anything she's kind of resigned to the fact her babies love us and just doesn't want any of our attention 'thanks very much' (said not so nicely).
The only thing that has receeded is Sugar's growling. She starts but after we grab the kittens we tend to leave her alone so she seems to just go 'oh'. My brother who is probably the most brave to her actual lashing out has been feeding her treats but I dont trust her and she doesn't trust me. We can have a day where we get a pat in then the next day she flinches and presses herself in the corner when you actually get your hands on her.
Dropped by the shelter so Loki could get his second vaccination. Yes he's still here about another week or so and he goes to his home. He still sucks on people and has his own temporary pen in the lounge. (Slowly taking over the house with kittens).

Sugar's kittens were overdue for worming so we got that done and gave their weeny sharp claws a clip.

My Brother (Ben) is still taking time to work on Sugar. He persists and can pat her but she never appears comfortable with it. I understand some cats will take years to turn around but I really don't think Sugar will ever voluntarily seek people out.
On the 19th December the big day arrived for Sugar to have her first check over since having her kittens. All the kittens passed the 600 gram mark and received their first vaccination. I totally expected Sugar to flip out but when she was checked over. Although very scared she didn't try to hurt anyone. I'd call it freezing in fear.
She was passed on the proviso she improve in the sale area. There has been kittens in the adoption room that would pack themselves into a corner but as the months went on and the confident ones got sold they've slowly come out of their shells. We hoped since she'd previously shown interest in the shelter cat Pebbles that she would grow more comfortable with the other cats and they'd in turn teach her that people aren't so bad.
Introducing her to the room didn't go as well as planned. Sugar wanted no part of any other cat. Its not unusual but I had hoped she would show some more interest. She packed herself away in a corner and swore at anyone who dared come check her out. (*Sigh*)

Sugar found her safe place and is sticking to it |
Needless to say she's not out of the woods as yet.
I always forget how fast kittens grow up, because when I have them it seems to take FOREVER for them to move from stage to stage..
ReplyDeleteHoney looks like she might be a nebelung.. she looks a lot like Jack did as a kitten.
Poor Sugar. Those truly feral kitties so do not take to being tamed well at all. I was so hoping it was just hormones..
